Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows
I usually think of the HP films as nothing more than date movies but my this was a treat - subtle, disturbing, existential. I think getting them out of bloody Hogwarts was genius, cos it all felt so grown up - no Scooby Doo mysteries or CGI 3D action wand ‘em ups. Here there was suicide, sexual nebulae, and touching tent scenes. A seriously class act, looking forward to part two.
Sherlock
I finally got round to watching 3/3 after being put off by negative press - such great TV! I’ll be forever haunted by the alone boy counting down from 10 to 1 on the phone as he sits strapped to explosives, Sherlock madly trying to solve the conundrum that’ll save his life. And the Eastern European fight scene in the planetarium, bathed in projections - wonderful.
Misfits
A Dark Knight-esque score. An Ichi the Killer style jumpsuit housed in the new penthouse Batcave. The broad comedy of supernatural sexuality shifting mixed with a peanut allergy finale. A sudden Heroes-esque sense of the epic - yes, Misfits series 2 is a treat.
